Overview

At the time of design there was no fully applicable national standard for a hydrogen testing center in China. The team referenced fire-protection code GB 50016-2014 (2018 ed.), hydrogen-refueling code GB 50516-2010 (2021 ed.) and the refueling-station standard GB 50156-2021, supplemented by overseas project experience. The facility houses a mobile pressure-vessel inspection and hydrogen testing center, and is the only TÜV-recognized third-party laboratory in the Asia-Pacific region for this work.

Key technical highlights

  • Architecture / fire: no domestic fire-rating standard existed for this use; the team benchmarked international practice and designed blast walls and a vented (explosion-relief) roof.
  • Structure: a challenging sliding roof and blast walls; the B-block hydrogen lab originally used a solid-web structure that could not meet the 0.1 m suction-clearance rule for wall-mounted explosion-proof fans, so the structure was changed to a truss form — slightly higher cost but eliminating gas-discharge dead zones and meeting the clearance requirement.
  • Electrical: Class-B (乙) building with full explosion-proof electrical design, hydrogen and natural-gas leak-detection systems, Class-2 lightning protection, and physically/electrically isolated internal-external networks with many explosion-proof devices.
  • BIM: the B-block ceiling void above the pipe gallery was extremely congested, especially where two galleries cross; the team used a combination of specialized plugins and manual drafting to model bespoke hangers in dense zones, and exported a walkthrough video against the real model to catch subtle clashes.
  • International clients: the institute has completed type tests on automotive hydrogen valves for Italy's OMB, Canada's GFI and Japan's JTEKT.
