Weight is volume times density:
W = L x W x T x rho
Where L, W, T = length, width, thickness (m), rho = density (kg/m3). Convert mm inputs to meters first (divide by 1000).
Example: a 1000 x 500 x 5 mm aluminum sheet: V = 1.0 x 0.5 x 0.005 = 0.0025 m3, W = 0.0025 x 2700 = 6.75 kg. The same sheet in steel (7850 kg/m3) weighs 19.6 kg — aluminum is about 2.9x lighter for the same volume.

Most structural alloys fall in the 2680-2810 kg/m3 range. Using 2700 kg/m3 is accurate to within 2% for common grades like 6061 and 6063.
Worked Example: Sheet and Plate Weight
A 2000 x 1000 x 10 mm 6061 aluminum plate:
V = 2.0 x 1.0 x 0.01 = 0.02 m3
W = 0.02 x 2700 = 54 kg
Compare: the same carbon steel plate weighs 157 kg (7850 kg/m3) — aluminum saves 103 kg, about 66%. For a 6 m x 1 m x 3 mm sheet: V = 0.018 m3, W = 48.6 kg. Use the calculator for any flat part; for round bar or pipe use the dedicated weight calculators.
