Which metals are supported?

Carbon steel, stainless 304/316, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, titanium, cast iron, nickel, lead, zinc, HDPE, PVC, glass, and various woods.

How accurate is the calculation?

The calculator uses standard published density values. Actual weights may vary slightly due to alloy composition and manufacturing tolerances.

How do I convert weight between kg and lb?

1 kg = 2.20462 lb. For example, a 100 kg steel bar weighs 220.5 lb. Conversely, divide lb by 2.20462 to get kg.

How much lighter is aluminum than steel?

Aluminum density is about 2700 kg/m3 versus 7850 kg/m3 for carbon steel, so an aluminum part of the same size weighs about 34% of the steel version - roughly two-thirds lighter. This is why aluminum is chosen for aircraft, truck bodies and lightweight structures. For strength at the same weight, aluminum sections are often made thicker, so compare finished geometry, not just density.
